1. The 'Atlantis of Japan'

In 1987, a local diver exploring off the coast of Japan’s southern Ryukyu Islands stumbled across a startling discovery. Twenty-five meters below the surface, he spotted a series of almost perfectly carved steps with straight edges. Known today as the Yonaguni Monument, this massive 50m-long-by-20m-wide behemoth is one of the world’s most unusual underwater sites. Nicknamed as "Japan’s Atlantis".

2. Milky sea phenomenon

For centuries, sailors have described seeing a mysterious "milky" cast to the sea, but science has not been able to explain it - or even confirm if it exists. Several years later, experiments found the glow was likely caused by bioluminescent bacteria that attract fish to be eaten and survive in their guts. This resulted in a milky sea image captured by satellite in 2006. Still, scientists don't know how or why the bacteria gather in such large numbers that they can be seen from space. The glow they emit is continuous, unlike the dinoflagellate organisms that produce brief flashes of light.

3. CORALS PRODUCE SUNSCREEN

Scientists have discovered the production of natural sunscreen within corals on the Great Barrier Reef. It is a UVA/UVB ray protection mechanism.

4. AROUND 450 SPECIES COULD CHANGE GENDER IN FISHES

According to the situation, the individual may become a female or a male and reproduce with a partner or even fertilize his own eggs if it is single. Clownfish, wrasses, moray eels, gobies, and other fish species are mostly known to change their sex.

5. Giant squid

Even though it is unlikely that the giant squid attacked ships, we know very little about this mysterious creature of the deep. This animal is thought to be the mythical Kraken from Pirates of the Caribbean as well as Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. It was only photographed alive in 2004 and filmed several years later when it was caught at the surface. Underwater videos were only captured in 2012. The scientists know almost nothing about these deep-sea giants, not even how big they get, although some estimates suggest that they can grow up to 66 feet. The only creature that may be bigger in weight is the colossal squid, although it is unlikely they're bigger in length; however, even less is known about them. Sea creatures, such as manatees, tend to be more adorable than grotesque in real life. These photos prove it.

6. 20 MILLION TONS OF GOLD HIDING IN THE OCEAN

As per the National Ocean Service (an arm of the U.S. Department of Commerce),  a huge amount of gold is present on the seafloor that could blow your mind.  There are approximately 20 million tonnes of gold in the ocean's water !! If the Mining companies will mine the ocean gold and if there will be an increase in the supply of gold then it may drop the price of gold a little for a short term in the future.

7. “Immortal” jellyfish

Recent research shows that an "immortal" jellyfish species that can age backward is silently invading the world's oceans, swarm by swarm. Unlike Benjamin Button, the immortal jellyfish can transform back into a baby at any time - but apparently only in an emergency.

8. FERDINAND MAGELLAN NAMED THE PACIFIC OCEAN

During 16 century in November 1520, his small feet ventured into an unknown ocean. Because of the calmness of the water at the time ('pacific' means peaceful), he named this body of water the Pacific Ocean.

9. CHIRONEX FLECKERI  IS THE MOST VENOMOUS MARINE ANIMAL

This Australian box jellyfish is known for its venomous nature. Its sea name is sea wasp, it is founded in the coastal regions of northern Australia and New Guinea to Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam.

10. LIONS MANE IS THE LONGEST AQUATIC ANIMAL

The largest aquatic animal in the world you know is " Blue Whale " but what about the longest. So the longest aquatic animal in the world is Lions Mane Jellyfish with 120 feet long.

Have you seen ☺any aquatic animals in the ocean while seating on a ship/boat?
